Rome (Uttam Hindu News): At least 21 people have died after a bus fell from an overpass onto train tracks and caught fire near the Italian canal city of Venice. Many people have also been injured in the accident, although their numbers are being stated differently in local media reports. It is estimated that 12 to 40 people were injured, at least two of whom are in critical condition. Apart from this, many people are also reported missing.
Bus Accident In Italy: The report says that the death toll may still increase. The injured are being treated in regional hospitals. Local media reported that a bus broke through a fence on the Vampa overpass in the Mestre area of Venice and fell about 10 meters into an empty area near the railway tracks below. The bus reportedly caught fire as soon as it fell.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed “personal and government deep condolences” and said she was following the developments closely, according to the report. Rome’s Quirinale Palace said Italian President Sergio Mattarella had called Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro to express his sorrow over the tragedy. “A great tragedy occurred in our community this evening,” Brugnaro said on social media.
