This statement by ‘Public Safety Canada’ comes a month after Khalistani posters were circulated online. The names of Indian officers were written on these posters. Following this, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had told allies Canada, Britain and the US not to give space to the “extremist Khalistani ideology” as it was “not good” for (mutual) relations. ‘Public Safety Canada’ said on the social media platform ‘X’, “There is no place in Canada to incite violence.”
Law enforcement agencies have been called in after videos circulated online of threats to Indian diplomatic officials. ‘X’ was formerly known as Twitter. It said last week, “Canadian law enforcement agencies and the government are working to ensure the safety of all diplomatic representatives in the country.” and termed the ‘propaganda material’ aired before the Khalistan rally as “unacceptable”. In June, India strongly criticized Canada after visuals of a tableau in Brampton surfaced on social media. The tableau allegedly celebrated the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
