Ottawa: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced new military, economic and development assistance and investment for Ukraine following a meeting with visiting Canadian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In a press release posted on his office’s website on Friday, Trudeau said Canada is ‘changing the approach to providing multi-year aid’, according to the report.
He announced a new investment of 650 million Canadian dollars (487.5 million US dollars) over three years to supply Ukraine with 50 vehicles, including armored medical evacuation vehicles. According to the release, Trudeau and Zelensky signed the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement which ensures market access conditions for Canadian businesses to support Ukraine’s economic recovery. The release said both countries have agreed to work with international partners to establish a working group on the seizure of Russian assets .
Trudeau announced an additional 34 million Canadian dollars in development assistance for four multi-year initiatives supporting mental health, restoration of small-scale farmers and agricultural livelihoods, technical assistance for rehabilitation and rebuilding of local infrastructure.Release Trudeau also announced new sanctions on 63 Russian individuals and entities, it said. Zelensky also spoke in parliament on Friday and called for further support from Canada and other Western allies.
