Candidates for general elections were selected on the basis of less information: Imran Khan

Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that his party’s candidates for the February 8 general elections were selected on the basis of “little information” and he was largely unaware of the ticket distribution among them. According to a report in ‘Dawn’ newspaper, Khan made these remarks after attending court proceedings in the Toshakhana corruption case on Saturday. Before the court proceedings began, around two dozen Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party workers and leaders from different constituencies complained to 71-year-old Khan about not being given tickets by the party.

“He told them that the tickets were given based on the little information he had received and that he was unaware of their ticket distribution,” the newspaper said. He explained to him that it was not possible for him to take a quick decision regarding the distribution of 850 tickets in a brief discussion with the party leaders. Khan once again accused his rival Nawaz Sharif of playing the match ‘with umpires of his choice’. Was accused. He said a proven money launderer returned to Pakistan under the ‘London Scheme’ and was given safe passage because the courts were allegedly lenient towards his opponents. Khan’s comments come ahead of the Supreme Court’s verdict on Saturday declaring Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) intra-party elections invalid and depriving the party of its election symbol ‘Balla’ . This decision forced PTI to announce that its candidates would contest the elections as ‘independent candidates’. Meanwhile, during the proceedings in the Toshakhana case on Saturday, accountability court judge Mohammad Bashir recorded the statements of four witnesses. So far eight witnesses have testified before the court. Further proceedings in this case have been adjourned till January 15.
