Questioning the concept of the US Special Coordinator for Tibet issues, Xiaojian called it pure crime and interference in China’s internal affairs.
In a series of tweets, Wang Xiaojian, spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Delhi, said the Xizang (Tibet) affairs are entirely China’s internal affairs and no external forces have the right to interfere. Questioning the concept of the US Special Coordinator for Tibet issues, Xiaojian called it pure crime and interference in China’s internal affairs. He said that China has always firmly opposed it and has never recognized it. The Chinese spokesperson also said that the so-called Tibetan government-in-exile is a completely separatist political group and an illegal organization that is in complete violation of China’s constitution and laws.
During his visit to India in May 2022, the US Special Envoy also met the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. Even at that time, the Chinese Foreign Ministry criticized the meeting and called it interference in China’s internal affairs. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told the media that the US should faithfully adhere to its commitment that Tibet is part of China and should not provide any support for separatist activities by the anti-China Dalai faction.
China has consistently objected to high-ranking US officials associating with the Dalai Lama, whom they see as a separatist leader. However, the Nobel laureate Dalai Lama, widely respected in all religions, has said that he wants autonomy for Tibet rather than independence from China.
