Cashless Treatment: Many important schemes are being run by the Central Government for the welfare and treatment of the poor and needy. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, crores of needy people have got free treatment. Now the central government is working on a mega plan. It is being told that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is preparing to start cashless treatment facility across the country for people injured in road accidents in the next three-four months. A top official gave this information on Monday. Road Transport and Highways Secretary Anurag Jain, while inaugurating a program organized on road transport here, said that the number of people losing their lives in road accidents in India is the highest in the world. To reduce this, the government is planning to provide immediate medical care to the victims. Anurag Jain said that providing free and cashless medical facilities to people injured in road accidents is part of the Amended Motor Vehicles Act, 2019. Some states have implemented it but now the Road Transport Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is going to implement it across the country.
Will get rights under Motor Vehicle Act
Transport Secretary Anurag Jain said that the facility of cashless treatment for the injured will start across the country in three-four months. He said that under this scheme, it has been envisaged to provide cashless trauma care to the victims of road accidents in a suitable hospital nearest to the incident site. This step will be in line with the decision of the Supreme Court and the authority for this has come from the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019. Anurag Jain said that cashless treatment to road accident injured will be provided in nearby hospitals during the ‘golden hour’ defined in the Motor Vehicles Act. In order to save the lives of people injured in an accident, the time within one hour of the accident is considered very important and it is called ‘Golden Hour’ in the medical world. Along with this, the Ministry is also taking initiatives to educate and make people aware to reduce road accidents. In this sequence, the Education Ministry has agreed to include road safety in the curriculum of schools and colleges.
Bharat NCAP released for the first time
Anurag Jain said that many steps have been taken for changes related to engineering of vehicles, including signs reminding to wear seat belts and vehicle safety standard ‘Bharat NCAP’ has also been issued for the first time. On this occasion, President of Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) Rohit Baluja said that the road safety experts attending the conference will investigate and analyze road accidents. The New Car Assessment Program was launched by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in the month of August. Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP) is a crash test evaluation program, which will give a 0 to 5 star rating based on the performance of vehicles after crash testing them.
