New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): The Directorate General of GST Intelligence has asked the country’s largest casino chain Delta Corp to pay alleged liability of Rs 11,139 crore. However, the company has said that it will challenge it in court.
The Hyderabad-based office of the Directorate General on Friday ordered Delta Corp to pay the outstanding tax and penalty under Section 74(5) of the CGST Act, 2017 and the Goa SGST Act, 2017. It is alleged that the company has made short payment of GST for the period July 2017 to March 2022. It has been advised to pay the alleged tax liability of Rs 11,139 crore along with interest and penalty, failing which a show cause notice under Section 74(1) will be issued to the company.
“The amount claimed in the DG Notice is based on, inter alia, the gross value of bets placed on all games played at the Casino during the relevant period,” Delta Corp said. The demand for GST on gross wagering value rather than gross gaming revenue has been an industry issue and various representations have already been made to the government at the industry level in relation to this issue.” “The company has been legally advised that the DG notice and tax demand are arbitrary and contrary to law, and the company will pursue all legal remedies available to challenge such tax demand and related proceedings,” it said.
