China can help Russia in war: NATO chief

Warsaw : The NATO chief has said the military alliance has found “some indications” that China may be planning to help Moscow in the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. He asked China to refrain from such actions that violate international law.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday that NATO is not part of the war but will “support Ukraine.” Asked if NATO has received any indications that China may be preparing to provide arms or other assistance to Russia, Stoltenberg said, “We have had some indications that they may be planning to do so, and NATO’s Allies have apparently warned the US against this as it should not happen. China should not support Russia’s illegal war.

Stoltenberg said any such direct assistance would be a violation of international law and “certainly China, a member of the UN Security Council, should not in any way support violations of the UN Charter or international law.” Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Wang Yi, the Chinese Communist Party’s most senior foreign policy official, on Wednesday, prompting concerns in the West that Beijing may be gearing up to step up stronger support for Russia in the nearly year-long war.
