Data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed that more than 40 percent of those tested at the end of May tested positive, The Straits Times reported.
The world is now coming out of the bad phase of Corona crisis. Rising cases in many places are proof that the danger is not yet over. China has been battling a fresh COVID-19 wave driven by the XBB variant for the past few months. The Asian country has seen a more than five-fold increase in the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 nationwide since April. Data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed that more than 40 percent of those tested at the end of May tested positive, The Straits Times reported.
A prominent Chinese health adviser predicted last week that China would have more than 65 million Covid-19 cases per week by June. Another report put the number of cases at 11 million per week in early June. The recent spike comes six months after the country rolled out its massive infrastructure to deal with Covid such as rigorous lockdowns, mass testing, making masks mandatory, etc.
The number of coronavirus cases is estimated to rise to 65 million. It is likely to be more dangerous than the previous waves that hit the country late last year and in January. In the first wave, 37 million people were probably infected with a different Omicron variant each day.
