This has put pressure on some Western countries that have tried to politicize the human rights review through issues such as Xinjiang.

On January 23, China released a white paper titled “China’s Counterterrorism Legal System and Practice,” which details China’s counterterrorism practices and effectiveness. It also provides answers for the outside world to understand the changes in Xinjiang. Judging from the content of the white paper, countering terrorism in accordance with the law can not only combat terrorism that endangers people’s lives and property, but also fundamentally protect people’s life, development and other human rights. Also does. Surveys show that Chinese people’s sense of security has increased from 87.55% in 2012 to 98.62% in 2021, which remains consistently high.
Terrorism is the common enemy of mankind and China is also its victim country. Take Xinjiang, China’s main anti-terrorism battlefield, for example. Fear, casualties, stalled development… These consequences have made people clearly realize that only by fighting terrorism in accordance with the law can we fundamentally protect human rights. In this white paper of more than 10 thousand words, China clearly defines what terrorism is, making counter-terrorism actions open and transparent in accordance with the law. At the same time, China has established a complete anti-terrorism legal system, including the operation of the legal system to fight terrorism and clear supervision provisions.
It is worth noting that in the fight against terrorism, China not only protects the human rights of victims, but also protects the legitimate rights of criminal suspects. For example, when a court in Xinjiang was hearing a terrorist attack case, it notified translators in time to arrive and translate relevant legal documents. Thus the right of criminal suspects to use their ethnic languages was ensured.
Facts have proven that the spirit of the rule of law embodied in China’s anti-terrorism efforts is in line with international anti-terrorism principles and concepts. It has not only effectively prevented and punished terrorist activities, but also effectively respected and protected human rights. Some Western countries adopt “double standards” on counter-terrorism issues and use so-called “rule of law” and “human rights” as an excuse to interfere in China’s internal affairs. This not only hinders international counter-terrorism cooperation, but also undermines global human rights protection.
