Scheme in more than 20 cities
China’s official newspaper Global Times has told that the new project of the government will be implemented in more than 20 cities of the country. Under this project, women will be encouraged to marry and have children. Apart from this, the important objective of this project is to divide the responsibilities of the child among the parents and to reduce the rising bride prices as well as to remove the old rules.
The project also covers the cities of Guangzhou and Hainan in Hebei Province. Both these cities are known as manufacturing hubs of the country. Demographer Hee Yafu said on this, ‘Society needs to guide the youth on the concept of marriage and child birth.’
one child policy of elimination
This project has come at a time when China is encouraging the citizens of the country to have children. Several steps have been taken by the Chinese government, such as tax exemptions, housing subsidies and free education for the third child, to encourage people to have more than one child. In 1980, China implemented a strict one-child policy. This policy has been abolished in the year 2015. It is believed that due to this policy, the population of the country has declined rapidly. People are now being encouraged by China to have a third child.
women reluctant to have children
China’s population has declined for the first time in six decades. Also, the population is aging rapidly. It was proposed in March by political advisers to the government that single and unmarried women should be given the facility of egg freezing and IVF treatment. This will increase the fertility rate of the country. Many women in China are reluctant to have children because of the cost of child care and the potential loss of their careers. Also, gender discrimination is also very high in the country.
