Delivery of S-400 air defense system will not be completed on time

After the meeting of Putin and Jinping, there is a sudden news that the delivery of five squadrons of S-400 air defense systems to India will not be completed on time. Russia has now told India in writing that it will not be able to provide all the systems till 2024. So far India has received three squadrons of S-400.

What did the Indian Army say?

Despite several assurances given by Russia over the months, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has now said in a statement that Moscow cannot fulfill its commitment to provide essential defense supplies to India’s military due to the Ukraine war. New Delhi is concerned that a Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 could affect military supplies to India. The IAF’s statement comes months after Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country would continue to export combat systems and provide military supplies to allies in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The specifics of this delivery are not mentioned in the report. This includes the delivery of the S-400 Triumf air defense system that India bought in 2018 for $5.4 billion. Speaking at the Army Expo in Moscow, Alexander Mikheyev, CEO of Russia’s Rosoboronexport, had said in August last year that they would deliver all five S-400 regiments to India by the end of 2023.
