China will make Covid test mandatory for people coming from South Korea

Seoul: China on Wednesday again made Covid-19 testing mandatory for those arriving from South Korea. In a notice sent on Tuesday to airlines operating between the two countries, Chinese aviation authorities said all passengers on direct flights from South Korea to China will be quarantined from Wednesday, a news agency quoted officials as saying. Upon arrival, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests will be conducted.
The move comes after Seoul imposed restrictions on travelers from China last month due to the rapid spread of new Covid cases in the neighboring country. Last month, China ended mandatory testing of citizens of all countries arriving from abroad. Seoul’s embassy in Beijing said the Chinese government only informed it about the new rule for travelers from South Korea. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning expressed concern over Seoul’s discriminatory entry restrictions at a regular press briefing on Tuesday, calling for corresponding and equivalent measures. A Seoul Foreign Ministry official said that China should not restrict the entry of people from across its border into its country for reasons other than the epidemic.
