China’s coast guard spokesperson, Kan Yu, addressed the recent incident on April 4, where several Philippines vessels were reported engaged in illegal operations near Hothang Chiao (Iroquois Reef), within China’s Nansha Islands.
Kan Yu stressed that the China Coast Guard responded to the situation strictly in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
He reported that Philippine government vessels, under the pretext of “fishing safety,” illegally intruded and provoked China’s territorial waters. China has undisputed sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and its surrounding waters, including Hothang Chiao. The China Coast Guard reaffirmed its commitment to regular law enforcement activities within Chinese territorial waters, firmly upholding sovereignty and safeguarding maritime rights and interests.
Meanwhile, on April 7, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s Southern Theater Command conducted a coordinated patrol involving the Navy and Air Force in the South China Sea. China clearly opposes any military maneuvers that could disrupt the peace and stability of the South China Sea or escalate tensions in the region.
