Chinese market offers huge business opportunity to UK financial services industry

John McLean, chairman of the UK’s Institute of Directors’ London branch, recently said in an exclusive interview to Xinhua News Agency that China’s huge market demand has provided vast business opportunities for the British financial services industry. And increasing financial cooperation between the two countries is beneficial for achieving mutual win.

McLean said that China has a huge market, very successful multinational companies, and a leading position in some key technological fields, all of which are conducive to China’s steady economic growth. He said that UK especially London has many global financial institutions and experts who have rich experience in providing financial services. And they are the means of connecting the global capital markets.

Maclean said the UK and China’s capital markets have formed close cooperation, including the “Shanghai-London Stock Connect” and the ongoing “Shenchen-London Stock Connect”. Discussing the future of UK-China financial cooperation, he stressed the importance of green growth. He said that both the UK and China are active partners in the field of green finance, and the issue of environmental protection is a new impetus for UK-China financial cooperation.

McLean, as a senior advisor to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in the UK, listed a number of areas in which British and Chinese companies could further collaborate, including education, medicine, the arts, green energy and electric vehicles. He said that we make Chinese companies feel friendly in Britain, and British companies are also welcome in China. McLean expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and expressed full confidence that China would achieve its growth target for this year.
