According to the Global Times, several rounds of talks have taken place between India and China since June 2020, but no conclusion has been reached so far. But looking at the joint statement issued after the talks held on 13-14 August, it seems that positive progress has been made in this direction. The newspaper says that both sides agreed to maintain peace in the border areas. Also, they want to solve the rest of the issues as soon as possible. Both have also agreed that dialogue and its momentum should be maintained through military and diplomatic channels.
India has a lot to do
According to the newspaper, it is clear from the joint statement that has been issued that both China and India have held positive, constructive and in-depth discussions. Also exchanged ideas in an open and forward-looking manner. The two countries are actually moving towards each other and realize that the border issue is not the basis of the entire Sino-Indian relationship. In such a situation, both the countries should not get trapped or retreat due to the border issue. At the same time, this issue should not be made a condition for the development of China-India relations. India has a lot to do in this regard.
India’s strategy responsible
The Global Times has attributed the ongoing conflict on the border to India’s strategy under which it is getting closer to America. He says that the reason for India’s aggression towards China is to be close to America. According to the newspaper, India considers its current situation to be similar to the situation created between China, America and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. According to the newspaper, a ‘non-treaty alliance partnership’ has emerged between India and the US. After this, India has started believing that China needs to ease relations with India so that the strategic pressure exerted by the US can be dealt with.
fear of losing image
In response to this article, former Indian diplomat Kanwal Sibal tweeted. He has said that this is the traditional view of China. He will maintain an aggressive stance on the border as well and at the same time will not resolve the rest of the issues. But even after that he believes that all this is not important and it should not affect the future relationship. According to him, Chinese President Xi Jinping is not attending the G-20 summit. In such a situation, it is clear that the new ‘peacemaker’ image of China will also be weakened.
