The Chinese National Bureau of Statistics released the “Statistical Bulletin of China’s National Economic and Social Development in 2023” on February 29.
According to preliminary calculations, the annual gross domestic product (GDP) in the year 2023 was 1260.582 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.2 percent compared to the year 2022. Among them: the added value of the primary industry was 89.755 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.1 percent from the year 2022, the added value of the secondary industry was 482.589 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.7 percent, the added value of the tertiary industry was 688.238 trillion yuan, Which was an increase of 5.8 percent. Final consumption expenditure boosted GDP growth by 4.3 percentage points.
If we look at the quarters, compared to the four quarters of the year 2022, the GDP growth rate increased by 4.5 percent in the first quarter last year, 6.3 percent in the second quarter, 4.9 percent in the third quarter and 5.2 percent in the fourth quarter.
According to the data, in the year 2023, the annual per capita GDP was 89,358 yuan, an increase of 5.4 percent over the year 2022. Gross national income was 1251.297 trillion yuan, up 5.6 percent from 2022. Total labor productivity in the country was 161,615 yuan/capita, an increase of 5.7 percent over 2022.
