Khan has filed a petition in the court seeking quashing of all 121 cases registered against him in different cities of the country on various charges like sedition, blasphemy, inciting violence and terrorism. According to the petition, these cases have been made on political grounds.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday told the Lahore High Court (LHC) that a third assassination attempt has been hatched against him. Khan sought the dismissal of all political cases registered against him, claiming that regular court appearances would put his life at risk. Khan has filed a petition in the court seeking quashing of all 121 cases registered against him in different cities of the country on various charges like sedition, blasphemy, inciting violence and terrorism. According to the petition, these cases have been made on political grounds.

Khan (71) appeared before the court amid tight security. He requested the court to allow him to speak during the hearing of the case. The court accepted his request. Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, told the court that there was a threat to his life. Khan was quoted as saying by a court official, “My regular appearance in the court would put my life in danger. I survived two assassination attempts. One attempt took place in Punjab’s Wazirabad and the second in the Islamabad judicial complex, where the ISI had taken command of the building. “They want to kill me and the third attempt is about to happen,” Khan told the court.

He said there was not a single case against him in 70 years of his life and all these cases were filed after he was removed from the post of prime minister in April last year. A five-member bench of the court headed by Justice Ali Bakr Najafi directed Khan to join the police investigation in these cases on May 5, the official said. “The court did not consider Khan’s request to join the police investigation through video link. The court will resume hearing on May 8.” Earlier, Khan had claimed that he had identified in a video a total of six people in the country who wanted to kill him.
