Countries giving more powerful weapons to Ukraine are inviting disaster themselves: Russia

Kyiv :The speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament warned on Sunday that countries supplying Ukraine with more powerful weapons were risking their own destruction by doing so. After this message, the countries made a new pledge to provide armored vehicles, air defense systems and other weapons to Ukraine, but Germany did not agree to supply the battle tank Leopard-2.

French TV channel LCI shared clips of the foreign minister’s interview, in which she appears to say that her government has not received a formal request from Poland, but “if we are asked, we will not protest.” Earlier, Vyacheslav Volodin, chairman of the State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, said governments giving Ukraine more powerful weapons could lead to a “global tragedy that will devastate their countries as well.”

“The supply of offensive weapons to the Kyiv regime would result in a global catastrophe,” he said. Volodin said, “If Washington and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) supply weapons and use them to attack peaceful cities and attempt to occupy our territory, as they have threatened , then it will be answered with more powerful weapons.

Germany is one of the main arms suppliers to Ukraine and has ordered a review of its Leopard 2 stockpile for a possible greenlight, but the German government is taking every step cautiously toward increasing commitments to Ukraine. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron said Sunday he does not rule out sending Leclerc battle tanks to Ukraine and has asked his defense minister to “work on” the idea.

Macron said this during a press conference in Paris with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. France and Germany are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the friendship treaty that followed World War II. In a joint declaration, France and Germany pledged their “unwavering support” to Ukraine. Scholz did not answer questions about the Leopard-2 tanks, but said his country is providing significant military assistance to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said his country was ready to form a “small coalition” with countries that would send their tanks if Germany did not agree to supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
