The Election Commission of Pakistan had filed the Toshakhana case against Khan last year for not sharing details of the sale of gifts received from foreign dignitaries. Toshakhana, established in the year 1974, is a department under the administrative control of Cabinet Division.
An Islamabad court on Friday said it would frame charges on May 10 against former prime minister Imran Khan in a case of alleged concealment of proceeds from the sale of government gifts. The Election Commission of Pakistan had filed the Toshakhana case against Khan last year for not sharing details of the sale of gifts received from foreign dignitaries. Toshakhana, established in the year 1974, is a department under the administrative control of Cabinet Division.
The Toshakhana stores valuable gifts received by Pakistani rulers, parliamentarians, bureaucrats and officials from governments of other countries, heads of states and foreign dignitaries. Khan (70) had challenged the maintainability of the case, but Additional Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar of the sessions court dismissed the pleas after hearing the arguments of the lawyers. The judge announced framing of charges against the accused Khan and also asked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief to appear before the court on the same day.
Earlier, the court had fixed February 7 for framing of charges against Khan, but the hearing was adjourned several times due to Khan’s non-appearance and objections raised by his lawyers. Khan, the cricketer-turned-politician, is currently facing over 140 cases of sedition, terrorism, murder, attempt to murder, blasphemy and other charges.
