Islamabad. Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ formed in the Arabian Sea is not expected to make landfall in the country, Pakistan’s meteorological agency has said, but authorities in coastal areas in Sindh and Balochistan have been advised to remain vigilant to ensure public safety . Quoting Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) experts, ‘Biparjoy’ was located about 1,120 km from Karachi till Friday night, The Express Tribune reported.
It is almost the same distance between Karachi and Lahore. The PMD said, Biparjoy has changed its course and gradually moved towards north-northeast direction during the last 12 hours. PMD experts said that cyclone ‘Biporjoy’ is not expected to make landfall in the Pakistani coast, but it may touch the Makran coast.
However, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is not taking any chances and has advised the concerned authorities in Sindh and Balochistan to remain vigilant in view of the very severe cyclonic storm. The NDMA also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea till June 13. The PMD also advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea from June 12, as conditions in the Arabian Sea could prove dangerous for fishing due to storm surge and high waves.
