Daniel Noboa wins Ecuador’s presidential race, Noboa becomes youngest president – Dainik Savera Times

Quito: Business personality Daniel Noboa has been elected as the new President of Ecuador. In the presidential election, Ngoba received 52.29 percent of the votes while his rival Luisa Gonzalez received 47.71 percent of the votes. The National Electoral Council (CNE) gave this information citing the preliminary official results of the presidential election held on Sunday. Noboa has become the youngest president in the history of Ecuador at the age of 35. The CNE has announced that Noboa has won Ecuador’s presidential election with 90.78 percent of ballots counted. CNE president Diana Attamant confirmed that the result is ‘irreversible’. He declared Noboa the President of the South American country.

Luisa Gonzalez, the candidate of the Civil Revolution Movement led by former President Rafael Correa, accepted her defeat and congratulated her opponent. He expressed his political organization’s support to the elected President. Noboa, the candidate of the National Democratic Action Party, is the son of Mr. Álvaro Noboa, a banana businessman who contested the presidency five times, but was unsuccessful.

Noboa will have only a 17-month term until the next elections. He will remain on this post only till May 2025. That’s why the current election was triggered early when outgoing President Guillermo Lasso dissolved Parliament amid his impeachment trial. If Noboa wishes, he can contest elections again for the presidency of 2025-29.
‘Tomorrow we will begin work for this new Ecuador, we will begin work to rebuild a country deeply affected by violence, corruption and hatred,’ Noboa told supporters.

Gang violence has increased in Ecuador in recent years and the presidential campaign was marred by the assassination of candidate Fernando Villavicencio in August. As a journalist he campaigned against corruption. Violent crime has also increased dramatically and Ecuador has become a hub for drug gangs due to its location between Colombia and Peru, the world’s top two producers of cocaine.

Noboa has suggested moving some of the most notorious criminals on prison ships off the coast of Ecuador, in order to break up prison gangs inside the country’s prisons. He has suggested installing scanners to intercept more cocaine shipments to boost security at Ecuador’s borders and ports to disrupt drug trafficking routes.
