The body was found Sunday evening near the Assiniboine River and Highway 110 bridge east of Brandon City in Manitoba province. CBC News reported Monday that family members of Patel reported her missing to Brandon police on Saturday morning. Patel’s family members searched the area and found her clothes Sunday evening near the Assiniboine River and Highway 110 bridge. Reports said emergency service personnel searched the area and found a dead person.
Quoting a senior police team official, The Brandon Sun newspaper said in its report on Monday, “A body has been found near the Assiniboine River and the team believes it to be the body of Assiniboine Community College student Visha Patel.” who was reported missing since Friday morning. The report stated that Patel was seen on home video surveillance leaving his home in a car. According to the report, the authorities, however, are yet to confirm the identity of the person. An eyewitness told police that he may have seen Patel walking toward the Riverbank Discovery Center grounds.
Authorities had appealed to the public through social media until Saturday afternoon to avoid the area along the river because of the search and rescue operation. The chief medical examiner’s office said officials would continue to investigate, although there are currently no signs of foul play. A family friend told the newspaper on Monday that Patel had been attending Assiniboine Community College as an international student for the past few years.
