Deepfake: Exchange warns on fake video of NSE chief

In this video, he is allegedly seen recommending some stocks. Investors have been cautioned by the exchange regarding this fake video. The National Stock Exchange has issued a statement saying that Chauhan’s face and voice and the NSE logo have been used in some audio-video clips related to investment and advice made by misusing technology. It seems that such videos have been made with the help of sophisticated technology to mimic the voice and facial expressions of Ashish Kumar Chauhan.

Deepfake means using artificial intelligence to misrepresent a person. In this, through manipulation, a person is shown doing or saying something which he has never said or done. In this way there is a danger of misinformation spreading and reputation being damaged. NSE cautioned investors not to believe such audios and videos and not to follow any investment or other advice coming from such fake videos or other mediums.

Video being removed from social media
The exchange has said that NSE employees are not authorized to recommend any stock or make deals in those stocks. NSE said that it is busy requesting the removal of such videos from media platforms. The exchange has also asked investors to verify the source of communications and materials sent by NSE and check the official social media handles.
