Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, discussed bilateral issues

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street here on Wednesday and discussed various bilateral issues. According to senior officials aware of the meeting, the agenda of the talks included defence, trade and regional issues.

Apart from this, the progress of ongoing negotiations regarding Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was also discussed. Apart from Sunak, Singh met Foreign Minister David Cameron at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

“Had practical discussions with UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron on promoting India-UK relations and deepening cooperation between the two countries,” Singh said in a statement on social media.

Following the two high-level meetings, Singh co-chaired the UK-India Defense Industry CEOs Roundtable with his counterpart Grant Shapps. He said India envisions a prosperous defense partnership with the UK focused on co-production.

The roundtable was attended by a number of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the UK defense industry, officials from the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD), representatives of the UK-India Business Council (UKIBC) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
