Digital Desk, New Delhi. The elections for the MCD Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee are being held at the Civic Center in Delhi on Friday. There has been a lot of uproar regarding this. The Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP clashed over the swearing-in of elected and nominated members. There was a scuffle between corporators, chairs were hurled in the House. Due to this the election of Delhi Mayor was postponed.
Earlier, all the corporators, nominated corporators and officers of AAP and BJP reached Civic Center State MCD Sadan. Slogans were raised from the Aam Aadmi Party workers as soon as BJP’s Satya Sharma, the presiding officer announced by the Lt Governor, took oath followed by the swearing in of 10 councilors nominated by the Lt Governor. Expressing objection, he said that the first elected councilors should be sworn in.
Within no time, slogans started being raised from the BJP corporators as well and this sloganeering turned into ruckus and fighting. Marshals and security officers got involved in protecting the councilors present in the House from each other. Significantly, the Aam Aadmi Party alleges that this has never happened before. First of all the nominated councilors were administered oath. AAP and BJP councilors clashed in MCD Sadan before the mayoral elections on this matter today.
Due to continuous uproar and sloganeering in the MCD House, the House has been adjourned till the next date. It has not yet been decided when the elections will be held. The Congress has kept itself out of the MCD mayoral election.
