Delivery of Russian Nuclear Weapons consignment completed: President of Belarus
[ad_1]
The President of Belarus said on Monday that Russia has sent the entire consignment of tactical nuclear weapons to his country. The announcement has raised concerns in neighboring Poland and elsewhere in the region.
Speaking at a meeting of a Moscow-led economic forum in St. Petersburg, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said the shipment was completed in October, but did not say how many weapons were sent or where they were deployed.
These tactical nuclear warheads, used on the battlefield, have short-range lethality compared to more powerful nuclear warheads that can be fitted to long-range missiles.Russia said it would maintain control over weapons shipped to Belarus.
Lukashenko said that the purpose of supplying Russian nuclear weapons to his country is to stop the aggression of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member Poland. Poland is providing military, humanitarian and political support to Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, and is among the countries imposing international sanctions on Russia and Belarus.
