The newspaper quoted Naseer Watanpalli, an Indian social worker present at the Dubai police mortuary, as saying that four Indians, including a couple from Kerala, were among the dead. “So far, we have identified four Indians including two men from Tamil Nadu and a couple from Kerala, three Pakistani brothers and a Nigerian woman working in the building,” he said.
According to the report, Vatanpalli said he was coordinating with the Dubai Police, the Indian Consulate in Dubai, other diplomatic missions and friends and relatives of the deceased. A spokesperson for Dubai Civil Defense said preliminary investigations revealed that the building did not have adequate security arrangements. The spokesman said that the authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the fire, so that a detailed report can be made available.
