Beijing. A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck parts of eastern China late Saturday, injuring at least 21 people and causing more than 100 buildings to collapse. The quake, which struck Pingyuan County in Shandong province at 2:33 am, was also felt in several parts of northern China, including Beijing, Tianjin, Henan and Hebei provinces, local media reported. Pingyuan is located about 345 kilometers south of Beijing. At least 21 people were injured and 126 buildings collapsed in the quake, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Videos shared online showed furniture moving and people running out of homes. Twenty trains from Beijing, Tianjing and Changzhou were suspended due to the earthquake. According to ‘China Railway Beijing Group Co Ltd’, about 30 trains of Shijiazhuang-Jinan high-speed railway were also stopped due to the earthquake.
