Jakarta. The tremors of a strong earthquake were felt in the eastern part of Indonesia on Wednesday. However, there is no news of any serious loss of life or property. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.1 and its epicenter was 65 km south-southeast of Gorontalo at a depth of 147 km in the ocean. Tremors were felt in Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, North Maluku and Central Sulawesi provinces. Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency has not issued any tsunami warnings. At least 331 people were killed and nearly 600 injured in a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that hit Cianjur city in West Java on November 21. Earlier, about 4,340 people were killed in the Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami in 2018. In 2004, an extremely powerful earthquake in the Indian Ocean caused a tsunami that killed more than 230,000 people in a dozen countries, mostly in Aceh province of Indonesia.
