Earthquake tremors felt in Myanmar’s coastal region and Thailand

Bangkok. An earthquake struck off Myanmar’s southern coast on Monday and tremors were also felt in Thailand, but there were no reports of major damage at the moment. Myanmar’s Meteorological Department said the 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck at about 8:10 a.m. about 152 km south of the country’s largest city, Yangon. Its center was at a depth of 10 kilometers from the ground. The Meteorological Department of Thailand said that the tremors of a magnitude 6 earthquake were felt at around 8.40 am.
The quake was felt in the capital Bangkok and nearby Nonthaburi province, while its epicenter was some 450 kilometers away. The US Geological Survey measured the earthquake’s magnitude at 5.6. According to the website of the Thai government’s earthquake monitoring center, many residents of high-rise buildings in Bangkok reported feeling the tremors for 15 to 30 seconds. There is no news of any major damage from the earthquake.
