Cairo, 21 October (HS). Egypt opened the Rafah crossing on Saturday, the 15th day of the Hamas-Israel war. With this, the process of delivering essential goods to Palestinians started. After crossing the crossing, about 200 trucks have entered the Gaza border with goods worth three thousand tons. It is expected that using this crossing, foreign citizens will leave Gaza and go to Egypt. This information has been given in media reports.
After this incident, Israel has said that all Israeli citizens living in Egypt, Jordan and Morocco should leave these countries as soon as possible. Also, citizens have been advised not to go to these countries. Israel’s National Security Agency has expressed apprehension that people angry because of the war in these countries may target Israelis.
The decision to open the Rafah crossing from Gaza to Egypt has been taken for humanitarian aid. The US Embassy in Israel said the Gaza-Egypt border opened to foreigners at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The embassy has said that it is not clear how long it will remain open. The embassy has advised US citizens to exercise caution before heading to or attempting to cross the border.
According to another media report, US President Joe Biden and his top aides have urged Israeli leaders not to launch a powerful attack against Hezbollah. Biden has said that if Israel strongly attacks Hezbollah, the war will escalate further. On the other hand, the Biden administration has felt some relief after Hamas released the American mother and daughter. On this, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the entire US government will work every day, every minute, every second to ensure the release of the remaining Americans from the capture of Hamas.
It is noteworthy that the Rafah crossing is in the southern area of the Gaza Strip. It connects the Gaza Strip with Egypt’s Sinai Desert. Apart from this, there are two other crossings in the Gaza Strip area, Erez and Kerem Shalom. Erez is located between northern Gaza and Israel. Kerem Shalom is also located between Israel and Gaza but is used only for commercial purposes. At present both of them are closed. In such a situation, Gazans have only recourse to the Rafah crossing.
