ankara (Uttam Hindu News): Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has called for a ceasefire in Gaza ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, which begins around March 11 this year.
“I believe everyone agrees that a ceasefire before Ramadan is necessary for the security of the Palestinians and because of its religious nature,” Shoukry told Anadolu Agency in southern Turkey on Friday.
The Egyptian minister stressed that military actions during Ramadan will not only affect civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, but will also create a tense atmosphere in the Arab and Muslim world, Xinhua news agency reported.
“We are working on it and we will continue to do everything possible,” Shoukry said. “We hope to end the threats and hostilities.”
He said it was not appropriate to discuss a plan that would allow Israel to conduct military operations while ensuring the safety of civilians.
