Elon Musk’s X Corp bans more than 5 lakh accounts in India

New Delhi: Elon Musk’s X Corp has banned a record 5,06,173 accounts in India between January 26 and February 25. According to Musk’s microblogging platform, action has been taken due to posts containing child sexual abuse and nudity being found on the accounts of mostly Indian users.

Apart from this, 1,982 accounts have been banned due to terrorism related posts. Overall, X banned 5,08,155 accounts in the country during the reporting period.

Ax said in its monthly report that a total of 14,421 complaints were received during this period. These complaints were received by Indian users under the Grievance Redressal Mechanism created under the IT Rules 2021.

Apart from this, X has heard 41 complaints regarding account suspension. The company said that the ban on 1 of these accounts was lifted, while the remaining accounts will remain banned.

The company said that we received 71 requests related to general questions about accounts during this reporting period.

Most of the complaints from India (7,510) were about the ban. After this, 3,785 complaints were received regarding suicide or self-harm, 1,395 complaints were received regarding hate speech, and 746 complaints were received regarding promotion of abuse/harassment.

Between December 26 and January 25, X banned 2,31,215 accounts in India. The micro-blogging platform also removed 1,945 accounts for promoting terrorism on the platform.
