Zhaoqingshuangmei, a member of the National Committee of the NPC, heads the Hwa Chie Embroidery Professional Cooperative in Mabian Yi Autonomous County, Leshan City, southwest China’s Sichuan Province. The local environment is beautiful and the folk customs are simple and honest. Girls of the Yi caste weave their hopes on clothes, shoes and other items for a living by sewing, creating colorful Yi embroidery products.
Year 2015 Chaochinshuangmei and several sisters co-founded a professional embroidery cooperative. So far, she has trained over 3,000 people to learn Yi embroidery skills online and offline, and inspired over 800 embroiderers to get flexible employment at home. He also promoted the hand embroidery of the Yi people to become a representative item of the provincial intangible cultural heritage.
In Zhaoqingshuangmei’s view, safeguarding good intangible cultural heritage is not only an important manifestation of cultural self-confidence, but also an important way of rural revitalization. This time at the NPC annual conference, she will bring forth more grassroots and frontline voices, and give more suggestions on how to help Yi caste embroidery develop cultural tourism and rural revitalization.
