Enriched uranium particles up to 83.7 percent found in Iran: UN

The IAEA director-general has said Iran now has enough uranium to make “several” nuclear bombs if it wanted to, but it would take months to build a weapon.
Inspectors from the United Nations Atomic Watchdog (IAEA) found uranium at Iran’s underground Fordo nuclear site enriched to 83.7 percent. ‘Associated Press’ gave this information in a report on Tuesday. This confidential quarterly report distributed by this International Atomic Energy Agency to member countries is expected to increase the tension between Iran and Western countries regarding Iran’s nuclear program. The IAEA director-general has said Iran now has enough uranium to make “several” nuclear bombs if it wanted to, but it would take months to build a weapon.
Earlier, Bloomberg had reported that IAEA inspectors had found up to 84 percent enriched uranium particles in Iran. At the time, Behrouz Kamalvandi, a spokesman for Iran’s civilian nuclear program, described finding any particles of uranium at that level of purity (84 percent) as a transient side effect of the process of enriching uranium to 60 percent purity. Iran has already announced the enrichment of uranium to 60 per cent purity. However, uranium with 84 percent purity is very close to the enriched uranium (90 percent purity) used in nuclear weapons. This means that if Iran wants, it can use this uranium to make nuclear weapons.
