EPFO: Extended deadline for applying for EPFO pension

All the employees who are members of the Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) must be aware that the EPFO deadline for making pension applications has been extended. Eligible members can now apply online for the same.
EPFO on Monday announced that all eligible members of the provident fund body can now opt and apply jointly with their employers for higher pension till May 3, 2023. Earlier, the last date to apply for higher pension was estimated to be March 3, 2023.
The window for applying for higher pension by EPFO will close on March 3. A Supreme Court order on November 4 gave the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization four months to all eligible members to opt for the higher pension.
According to the URL activated on the EPFO platform, the deadline for drawing more pension has now been extended till May 3 and the window for the same will close after two months.
EPFO High Pension Scheme: Eligibility Criteria
Employees and employers who contributed salary in excess of the salary limit of Rs 5,000 or Rs 6,500.
Employees and employers who did not exercise the joint option in the previous window while being an EPS member.
Employees who were members prior to 1 September 2014 and continue to be members on or after that date.
It is to be noted that all those who come under this eligibility criteria will have to apply for the EPFO Higher Pension Scheme jointly with their employers and submit a joint declaration. EPS members will also get a chance to contribute up to 8.33 per cent of their basic salary.
The notification issued by EPFO states, ‘The undertaking shall be to the effect that the contribution payable along with interest till the date of payment shall be deposited within the specified period.
