Dhaka. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina here on Thursday and the two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest and expressed satisfaction at the level of bilateral cooperation in various fields. Jaishankar reached Bangladesh to participate in the sixth edition of the ‘Indian Ocean Conference’. The possibilities of regional cooperation will be discussed during the conference. He also conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings to Hasina. Jaishankar tweeted, “Honored to have met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Conveyed the best wishes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to him. The guidance and vision of our leaders is making India-Bangladesh friendship stronger.
Prime Minister Hasina’s press secretary Ehsanul Karim told PTI that the foreign minister met the prime minister and during the talks they both “expressed satisfaction at the level of bilateral cooperation in various fields”. EAM also discussed with the Prime Minister the post-Covid world and the South Asian regional economy in the backdrop of the Ukraine war. He said that the Prime Minister hoped that India would play an important role in furthering the interests of the people of developing countries and least developed countries (LDCs). The India Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh has organized the sixth edition of the conference with the theme “Partnership for Peace, Prosperity and a Brighter Future”.
Earlier, a spokesperson of Bangladesh’s Foreign Office said that Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammad Shahryar Alam welcomed Jaishankar on his arrival. Foreign Minister Jaishankar tweeted after reaching the capital of Bangladesh, “Dhaka reached. Thanks to Mohammad Shahryar Alam, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh for the warm welcome. Looking forward to meeting colleagues and friends from around the world at the Indian Ocean Conference.” Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the two-day conference starting May 12, while Jaishankar will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony.
