Famous doctor of Bangladesh was buried

Dr. Zafarullah Chowdhary, a famous Bangladeshi physician and participant in the liberation struggle, was buried on Friday, three days after his death. Chowdhary (81) died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment for kidney ailment. Zafrullah Chowdhary had expressed his wish before his death that after his death his body should be handed over to medical students for study. His son Waris Chaudhary gave this information. A civil society activist and political thinker, Choudhary was a vascular surgeon as well as a public health expert.

“He (Chowdhary) had expressed his wish that his body be donated to medical students for study, and we (the family) also wanted to fulfill his wish,” Waris said. He said the family wanted to donate Chowdhury’s body to the country’s premier government Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Ganoshasthya Medical College, which Chowdhury himself founded. Waris said, “But both the institutions said that they are not ready to dissect the body. , , He said this out of love and respect for my father, and so we decided to bury him at the Ganoshasthya Kendra.” Chowdhury’s body was laid according to Islamic rituals at the premises of Ganoshasthya Kendra, a non-profit health and education complex set up on the outskirts of the capital. During his lifetime, Chowdhury had good relations with both Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Khaleda Zia.

Both the leaders and Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid issued statements condoling his death. When Chaudhary was about to finish his medical studies in Britain, he joined the liberation struggle. He established a major hospital on Indian soil during the war. After the independence of Bangladesh, he devoted his life in promoting the health sector.
