Nagraj Nakhat, a farmer from Thakurganj in Kishanganj district, nine years ago started such a crop, which was never grown before by anybody in Bihar, not only in the district. Farmers in Kishanganj district are completely shifting from traditional farming to modern and new farming. Where now they are earning profit of lakhs of rupees. Dragon fruit is being cultivated in other areas including Thakurganj. By cultivating dragon fruit, they are earning a profit of lakhs of rupees. In the first year, about three lakh rupees are spent in the cultivation of dragon fruit, where from the third year, a profit of five lakh rupees starts in the cultivation of dragon fruit. Dragon fruit is also grown in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, Israel, Sri Lanka and Central Asia. Dragon fruit is cultivated the most in Thailand. Due to the high demand of dragon fruit abroad, the price of this fruit is high, where it increases further with the demand. The Horticulture Department has given a grant to the farmers for the cultivation of dragon fruit.
Good profit after farming
Guava cultivation has taken a commercial form in Kishanganj. The area under guava cultivation has increased in Thakurganj and Kishanganj blocks of the district. It should be noted that guava is produced twice a year in the area. Its gardening can be done successfully in almost all types of soil. The guava tree has the ability to tolerate more heat and drought than other fruits. The popularity of guava horticulture is increasing due to its adaptability to different types of land and climate, low cost, simple gardening and internal qualities. Doctors have called it beneficial for heart patients. The specialty of guava produced in the district is that it is produced here twice a year. Mainly crop comes in January to March and September to November. It is said that farmers are producing up to 30 kg of fruits every year from a fully developed tree of 5 years. Allahabadi white and Sukhda varieties are being cultivated in the district. As a result, its horticulture is being given a commercial form in the district. At the same time, let us tell that the breaking of dragon fruit has also started. Farmers are expecting good profit from its cultivation. Important nutrients like vitamin C, iron, calcium and phosphorus are found in it. It is beneficial for us in many ways. It is also an antioxidant fruit. Farmers are earning up to seven lakh rupees annually by doing its cultivation comfortably.
