Fearing BCCI’s opposition, ECB rejected Lalit Modi’s offer to buy ‘The Hundred’: Report

Avoiding jeopardizing its cordial relations with the BCCI, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has turned down former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s offer to buy out their franchise-based competition ‘The Hundred’.
According to the report of ‘Daily Telegraph’, Modi had made a tempting offer to buy ‘The Hundred’ for 10 years. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had banned Modi for life in 2013 for serious misconduct and indiscipline related to the bid for two new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises in 2010. Modi then left India and has been living in London since then.
According to the British daily, Modi’s representatives met Vikram Banerjee, director of operations of the England and Wales Cricket Board and head of ‘The Hundred’, and chief executive Richard Gould.
He offered 10 years to buy ‘The Hundred’ and fund it through private investment. However, ECB will not take forward talks with Modi. ,
The ECB is not ready to completely give up its ownership of this league. But it is also worried about the potential pitfalls of the partnership as a deal with Modi would jeopardize its relationship with the BCCI.
