Fighter plane crashes in South Korea’s maritime area, American pilot ejected safely

An F-16 fighter plane crashed off the southwest coast of South Korea on Wednesday, although the US Air Force pilot ejected safely from the plane. This is the second plane crash in less than two months.
The US 8th Fighter Wing said in a statement that the unidentified pilot was conscious and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The statement said that efforts are being made to provide medical assistance to the pilot, along with US and South Korean mission partners.
The pilot experienced a sudden emergency during the flight and ejected before the plane crashed into the sea near the port city of Gunsan.
The causes of the accident are being investigated. “We are extremely grateful to the Republic of Korea Rescue Forces and all of our allies who made it possible to provide rapid medical attention to our pilot,” said Col. Matthew C. Getke, South Korea’s command wing. Now we will focus our attention on the search and recovery of the aircraft. The ‘8 Fighter Wing’ is made up of F-16 squadrons. Earlier in December, a case of F-16 crash had come to light.
