Jerusalem (Uttam Hindu News): Fierce fighting continues in Gaza City’s Al Shifa Hospital and its surrounding areas. Fighting has erupted in Gaza City for the second time in the five-and-a-half month war. Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters are attacking Israeli soldiers and their tanks with rockets and mortars from inside the hospital and from other positions. Israeli soldiers, who entered the hospital premises on March 18, have so far killed more than 200 fighters there.

Israeli soldiers have arrested 800 people from the hospital complex. About 500 of those arrested have been confirmed as fighters of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Thousands of homeless people have taken shelter in this hospital, the largest in Gaza. When the fighters hiding among them started attacking the Israeli soldiers, the Israeli army entered the hospital premises. There are reports of injuries to people and patients taking shelter in the hospital premises in the fighting. His treatment is being hampered due to the fighting. Five people are reported to have died due to lack of proper treatment.

There is a shortage of food for the general public and patients present in the hospital. Fighting also continues in several other locations in Gaza, taking the total number of Palestinian deaths to 32,552. Meanwhile, Palestine Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced a new cabinet on Thursday. Abbas, who has led the authority for nearly 20 years, named his close ally Muhammad Mustafa as prime minister in early March. Now he will also fulfill the responsibility of Foreign Minister.
