Tel Aviv (Uttam Hindu News): At least five people, including a five-day-old infant, were killed in an Israeli attack on a hospital inside the compound of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Al Amal hospital was attacked on Tuesday. It added that a training center run by PRCS within the hospital premises was also seriously damaged.
World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has condemned the attack. According to the PRCS, at least five civilians were killed in the attacks, including a 5-day-old infant. 14,000 people were taking shelter in a hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis. Many of these are now gone, and those who remain are extremely fearful for their safety and are planning to leave the place.
“Hospitals, ambulances, health workers and people providing care must be protected at all times under international humanitarian law,” he said in a post on Twitter. Today’s bombing is unjustified. “Gaza’s health system is already on its knees, hampering health and aid worker efforts.”
The WHO chief has “called for an immediate ceasefire. Condemning the bombing, OCHA chief in Gaza, Gemma Connell, said there was no safe place in the area. “No child in the world should be killed,” he said. The world should be ashamed of this act.”
