North Korea’s official news agency, the Korean Central News Agency, said on Monday that members of the Politburo of the ruling Workers’ Party held a meeting on Saturday.
North Korea has organized a major political conference to discuss reforms in its agricultural sector. The meeting is seen as a sign of worsening food insecurity in the country as the country’s economic isolation deepens amid an emphasis on nuclear weapons. North Korea’s official news agency, the Korean Central News Agency, said on Monday that members of the Politburo of the ruling Workers’ Party held a meeting on Saturday.
It was decided in the meeting that a full meeting of the Central Committee of the party would be held at the end of February to review the agriculture strategy and set new goals. According to the agency, the members of the Politburo acknowledged that an important step is needed to rapidly promote comprehensive changes in the agricultural sector.
It said that it was decided that it was an important task to formulate the right strategy for the development of agriculture and to take immediate relevant steps for agriculture in order to promote the overall development of the socialist framework. The Politburo meeting came amid indications that the country is preparing to hold a massive military parade in Pyongyang. While it is not unprecedented for North Korea’s ruling party to have two plenary meetings in about two months, it is unusual.
