Foreign currency worth 1.42 crore seized from Maitree Express, 4 Bangladeshis in custody

Customs department had received information from informers
sources told that Customs Preventive Kolkata (SRI) officials had received information from informers that foreign currency was being brought into Kolkata metropolis illegally. On the basis of the information, the surveillance was increased by the Customs Department at Kolkata station, Sealdah station and Kolkata airport.
No valid documents found with Bangladeshi citizens
During the operation, four Bangladeshis were detained from Maitree Express at Kolkata station. Foreign currency was seized from the possession of these Bangladeshis. No valid document related to foreign exchange was found with him. As part of the investigation, the Customs officials have not disclosed the names of the Bangladeshis. However, by questioning them, it is being ascertained to whom they were going to give the foreign currency.
