Foreign ministers of Pakistan, Afghanistan and China will hold trilateral talks in Islamabad

Pakistan’s foreign ministers will hold a trilateral meeting with their counterparts from China and Afghanistan on Saturday aimed at enhancing cooperation on the complex Afghan issue and hold dialogue with top Pakistani leaders. In two separate statements, Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed the participation of Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Kang and Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaki in the 5th China-Pakistan-Afghanistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue.

In a statement issued here, the Foreign Office said, “The State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China, Honorable Qin Kang, will be on an official visit to Pakistan on May 5 and 6, 2023, and this will be his first visit to Pakistan after assuming this position.” It said that during the visit, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Kang will co-chair the fourth Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue, which is a framework arrangement to review bilateral cooperation between the two countries in key areas. In a separate statement, the Foreign Office said Muttaki would lead a high-level delegation that would include Haji Nuruddin Azizi, Afghanistan’s acting minister of commerce and industry, and senior officials from Afghanistan’s ministries of foreign affairs, transport and trade.

The office said, “This visit of the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan is the continuation of Pakistan’s political contact with Afghanistan.” Will review bilateral relations on various important issues including trade, connectivity, peace, security and education. ”The Foreign Office said that the foreign ministers of the three countries will attend the fifth China-Pakistan-Afghanistan trilateral foreign minister dialogue to be held on May 6. The last meeting was held in China in June 2021, weeks after the Taliban took over Afghanistan.
