In July 2022, a consortium of India’s Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) and Israel’s Gadot Group won the tender to privatize Haifa, Israel’s second largest port handling more than half of Israel’s container cargo. Through the winning bid of $1.18 billion, the Adani-Gadot consortium has secured the right to buy 100 percent of HPC’s shares. The APSEZ-Gadot Group consortium completed the acquisition of HPC from the Government of Israel on January 10, 2023. APSEZ holds a 70 percent stake in the project, while Gadot holds the remaining 30 percent. The concession period of Haifa port is till 2054.
Haifa, located in northern Israel, is one of Israel’s two largest commercial ports, handling about half of Israel’s container cargo, and is also a major port for passenger traffic and cruise ships. The existing infrastructure at Haifa Port consists of two container terminals and two multi-cargo terminals.
