Former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party-led government is a threat to the country. Bajwa claimed that if his leader Imran Khan had remained the prime minister, there would have been no Pakistan as it would have led to the eventual destruction of the country, reported Pakistan Today. In a discussion with government-affiliated journalist Javed Chaudhary, Bajwa alleged that during a cabinet meeting, Khan used an obscene Punjabi word to refer to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Imran was prevented from resigning?
Bajwa was asked whether he had stopped Khan from resigning from the National Assembly following his expulsion in April last year, to which he replied in the affirmative. According to Chaudhary, Bajwa told Khan, “Prime Minister! You have lost only one match, there is still a series to play. According to Bajwa, he told Khan that there was only a marginal difference of two votes between the PTI party and the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in Parliament. Citing the example of Khaleda Zia in Bangladesh, he advised Khan not to resign from the National Assembly.
Why didn’t the PTI government save?
The retired general stressed the importance of staying in parliament and the possibility of forming a government again in the future. Despite receiving this message, Khan did not respond and communication broke down. When asked about the reasons for the fall of Khan’s government, Bajwa denied any involvement and claimed that his only fault was not saving the government, adding that Khan himself wanted him to intervene. However, no evidence was provided to support this claim. Chowdhary questioned Bajwa as to why he did not save the PTI government, whereas he had done so in the past. Bajwa replied that if he had acted in his own interest, he would have supported Khan and retired with honour.
