France: Macron held a security meeting amidst strict vigilance after the school stabbing incident.

French President Emmanuel Macron held a special security meeting on Monday amid heightened alert over a possible terrorist threat. The school where a teacher was stabbed and seriously injured last week was evacuated after a bomb alert, French officials said. However, after reports of the bomb turned out to be false, hundreds of students and teachers were seen returning to the high school in the northern city of Arras. This incident of fake bomb news comes after a deadly attack on a teacher by a former student on Friday. The teacher was killed and three others were injured in the attack.

The student is suspected of being an Islamic fundamentalist. The prefectural office of the northern Pas de Clais region said that police had received information about the bomb on their website, after which all precautionary and security measures were taken. According to the office, the bomb disposal squad was also present on the spot. Visitors and staff at Paris’ Louvre Museum and Versailles Palace were also evacuated on Saturday after bomb reports. Macron postponed his travel plans abroad for a security meeting with the prime minister and government chief ministers, including top army officers and anti-terrorist squad officials, earlier in the day.

Macron was earlier scheduled to attend a summit on the Western Balkans in Tirana, Albania. Education Minister Gabriel Attal said that since the beginning of September, 168 bomb threats have been received in French schools. “This is condemnable and unacceptable,” he said. The French government has increased national security in view of the threat and has issued orders to deploy seven thousand soldiers by Monday night. This order will remain in place until further notice to increase security and vigilance around France.
